I found some pictures of my first car on the day it came home. If I’m not mistaken they were taken with my first ever camera phone. Oppo, meet the Blurpleberry. Blurpleberry, Oppo. Not the most glamorous thing, but hey, I was 16 and it was a free car!
I think everyone should have a crapcan like this (and I say that lovingly ) as their first car. It teaches you to appreciate cars more.

I have a soft spot for these in hatchbacks! A friend of mine from high school had a red hatchback of this generation. It was the three-speed auto and would net like 55 mpg. I did not k
eep in touch with anyone from high school but rumor had it that he became a heroin addict and sold the car for drugs...sigh.
What was Blurpleberry’s ultimate fate ?

Guessing it took a front shunt somewhere in it’s life? :P
Nothing wrong with old Geos - short of rust they ran forever!

I absolutely agree that first cars shouldn’t be great. Unless you’re like 23 when you get your first car. A friend of mine whose 17 just got his first car a 06 Corolla, and he was a bit bummed because he was shooting for a an E46 330, GTI, Golf TDI, or shooting for true moon a WRX. But I told him that it doesn’t matter how lame your first car is you can still have lots of fun with it.
I bought my first car when I was 18 a week after I got by first reliable job. It was a 92 Camry and I have way to much fun with it. Got 3 tickets with it, smashed a decorative broke wall while “drifting” in the snow, i majorly screwed up my first DIY oil change with it, drained the trans fluid instead of the oil...Imagine how much more trouble I would have gotten into with a fun car.
Also in college I knew a kid with a Metro like that, it was on 18” wheels and he beat the piss out of it, even using it as a hunting rig when the trails got to too small for his Silverado.

When I got my Neon I gave it to my mom who used it as a loaner car for her shop for a while, then she sold it to a customer who’s car had been totalled. Haven’t seen it around town in about a year so I’m assuming it’s off the road.
I had a 3spd auto and never managed more th an 36mpg...

That thing was a monster in the snow. At the time we lived up a big hill on a dirt road and it could get up that hill even when that CRV couldn't.

Oddly enough it only had 39k miles on it when it came to me, despite being 14 years old.

That doesn’t surprise me. My RallyMetro is a beast on the rallycross course, and when I took it through an off-road park during the Gamvler 500-Illinois, it was like a little billygoat.
